National Marine Fisheries Center Santa Cruz, California
The landscape design for this marine research facility located on a coastal bluff incorporates a variety of both public and private spaces. A private, central grassy courtyard featuring boulders and logs encourages the facility's scientists to interact in an informal atmosphere. A public courtyard's paving pattern features embedded timbers randomly spaced, reminiscent of logs washed up on the beach. Plant materials are sensitive to the rugged coastal conditions. |
